PERS Study Commission Chairman Sends Letter to Budget Committee

09/22/2011

Due to scheduling conflicts and his inability to appear before the Joint Legislative Budget Committee on September 22 during the PERS’ budget request hearing, George Schloegel, Chairman of the PERS Study Commission, sent the attached letter to the Budget Committee regarding the work of the Commission. Pursuant to receiving Schloegel’s letter, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee voted unanimously to not support “any recommendation that would prohibit an individual from receiving their Cost of Living Adjustment.” While the Joint Legislative Budget Committee certainly may have had good intentions in this statement, please note that it only references an individual receiving the Cost of Living Adjustment, but does not reference any recommendations regarding the calculation of the Cost of Living Adjustment, which is also commonly referred to as the 13th check.
