IHL Presents FY 2013 Budget Request

09/23/2011

The State Institutions of Higher Learning presented their FY 2013 budget request to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee on Monday, September 19. Dr. Hank Bounds told the committee that universities have been able to save $34.5 million in the current fiscal year from operating efficiencies such as energy and insurance savings and technology. Dr. Bounds presented IHL’s appropriation request priorities for FY 2013 over FY 2012 appropriations as follows: $50 million increase for Education and General (E & G) Operations On and Off Campus; $22.9 million increase for UMMC; approximately $6 million for agricultural programs; and $2.4 million for subsidiary programs. When discussing budget reductions over the last fiscal years, Dr. Bounds said that institutions must either increase revenue or make cuts to make up for lost state dollars. Increasing revenue at schools has included raising tuition, and increasing enrollment and retention efforts. The attached document provides IHL’s FY 2013 request.
