State Board of Education Considers Career Academies

MDE staff shared the attached presentation regarding Career Academies with the State Board of Education at its April 19 work session. Career Academies incorporate academics and Career Technical Education into one product. Career Academies have 3 structural elements: a small learning community; a college-prep curriculum with a career theme; and, partnerships with employers, the community and local colleges. Rankin County and Meridian schools are implementing academies next year. MDE will award at least 3 implementation grants to districts later this year.
