Legislature Passes FY 13 Appropriations for Universities

04/30/2012

Both the House and the Senate ultimately adopted the conference report for SB 2957 (IHL – General Support) this past Saturday, even though the Senate had recommitted the bill for additional work earlier in the day. It appears as if the support budget basically received level funding for next year, with no funds designated to pay for the increase in the employer’s contribution for retirement. It also appears as if SB 2958 (IHL – Subsidiary Programs) provides the same level of funding for next year as this year, while SB 2959 (Student Financial Aid) provides an additional $4.2 million in funding. Conference reports for IHL’s six other budgets were also adopted this past Saturday, with all bills now sent to the Governor for his consideration. HB 261, the bond bill, died on Saturday, as the House and Senate could not reach a compromise. The bill included funds for renovation and construction projects on university campuses throughout the state.
