MDE's Accountability Task Force reconvened with new membership last Thursday, November 29. Two topics were on the agenda: English Learner Component Changes (EL) and Non-Conventional School Grades. The discussion on EL centered on four possible changes:
- Revise Aggregation Method
- Remove Points Adjustment
- Adjust Time to Target
- Adjust Maximum Points to 70%
After extensive discussion, task force members asked MDE to produce impact data for options 1, 3, and 4, tabling option 2 until after the impact data can be reviewed.
The discussion of Non-Conventional School Grades focused on high schools serving any grades beyond 9-12. After many questions and considerations, as well as a report from the Commission on School Accountability’s Subcommittee on Attendance Centers, task force members requested
MDE to run the K-8 model and 9-12 model using an equating table to extrapolate the K-8 model data for each of the 81 non-conventional graded schools
The Accountability Task Force is scheduled to meet again January 31, 2019, as well as February 28, 2019, when a national EL expert will share research with the group.
