MPE Executive Director Kelly Riley has received multiple phone calls regarding some districts already offering contracts for the 2019-2020 School Year. Please be advised that districts have total discretion as to when they offer contracts. State law only governs when districts must notify employees who will not be offered a contract for the next school year. In accordance with state law, school districts must give notice of nonrenewal to teachers on or before April 15 OR within 10 calendar days of the Governor approving the appropriation bill, whichever date is later.
Riley has also received several inquiries regarding the amount of time an educator has to return their contract signed to their district. State law provides that contracts be returned within 10 days, as the district may rescind its offer if a contract is not returned signed within this time.
