The Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board met this past Monday and approved five charter operators' applications to move to the next stage of the application process:

  • Mississippi Community Education Center seeks to open a charter in Greenwood this year.
  • KC Schools, Inc. seeks to open a charter in the South Pike School District in 2020.
  • MS Delta Academies seeks to open a charter in Greenwood in 2020. (NOTE:  The Charter School Authorizer Board rejected this operator’s application last year to open a charter in Leflore County.)
  • The Randy J. Naylor Memorial Foundation seeks to open a charter in the Vicksburg-Warren School District in 2021.
  • SR1 seeks to open a charter in Canton in 2020. (NOTE:  The Charter School Authorizer Board rejected this operator’s application last year to open a charter in Canton.)

These five applications will now go through a threshold quality review, with those findings scheduled to be released on July 8.  The Charter School Authorizer Board will issue its final decision regarding any new charter schools in September.
