The State Board of Education held its monthly meeting last Thursday, August 15. Among other agenda items, the Board:
Received a report from MDE staff regarding The Equal Opportunity for Students with Special Needs Act (i.e., SPED vouchers).
Approved and released statewide results from the 2018-19 Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) which show student achievement has reached an all-time high in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. ELA achievement saw 41.6% of students scoring proficient or advanced. Results showed a small dip in both 6th Grade ELA and English II. Math achievement saw 47.3% of students scoring proficient or advanced. Students also made gains in science and U.S. History. Click here for district- and school-level MAAP results.
Approved beginning the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) process to establish a new State Board policy and new guidelines for the Mississippi Seal of Biliteracy which will recognize students who attain proficiency in one or more world languages and ELA.
