Members Offer Feedback via MPE’s Annual Member Survey

MPE appreciates our 1,174 members who took our online membership survey. Survey results include the following:


  • Teacher pay/compensation, PERS/retirement, and education funding are the top 3 policy issues of most importance to K-12 respondents.
  • Faculty/staff salaries, PERS, and dual credit are the top 3 policy issues of most importance to respondents working in a community college or university.
  • Teacher compensation, lack of support/respect for public education, and the amount of testing are the top 3 factors contributing to Mississippi’s teacher shortage.
  • 71% of respondents support allowing teachers to return to the classroom and draw their retirement, as well as a salary.
  • 82% of respondents oppose the diversion of state funds from public schools to nonpublic schools, home schools or virtual schools via vouchers, tuition tax credits, scholarships, individualized education funds, or other means. 
  • 47% of respondents support legislation that would allow properly trained school employees to carry guns on school campuses.
