Legislative Update (1/23/20)

Most Senate committees have held their organizational meetings and Senate bills are starting to be assigned to committees.  House committee assignments were announced earlier today before legislators wrapped up their work for the week.  Rep. Richard Bennett of Long Beach will chair the House Education Committee again this year.  Rep. Kent McCarty of Hattiesburg will serve as vice-chair of the committee.  Other committee members include representatives:

Rep. Mac Huddleston of Pontotoc will chair the House Universities and Colleges Committee, with Rep. Donnie Scoggin of Ellisville serving as vice-chair.  As shared previously, Rep. John Read of Gautier remains as chair of House Appropriations.  Rep. Karl Oliver of Winona will serve as vice chair.  Rep. Trey Lamar of Senatobia will chair House Ways & Means, with Rep. Jody Steverson of Ripley serving as vice chair.
