The Commission on School Accreditation met virtually yesterday, June 4. The Commission voted to request that the State Board of Education begin the APA process to revise Section 9, Acceleration of the Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards. The proposed revision provides that, beginning with the 2020-2021 school year, schools must enter non-weighted course grades for dual credit courses in MSIS. These non-weighted grades will be used in the performance measures for dual credit courses. The State Board of Education will consider the Commission’s request at its meeting next Thursday.
The Commission also voted to upgrade the accreditation status of the Laurel School District from “Probation” to “Accredited.” Roy Gill, Superintendent of the Harrison County School District, was elected to serve as the Commission’s 2020-2021 Chairman, while Valencia Martin of Greenwood was elected 2020-2021 Vice-Chair.
