State Superintendent Dr. Lance Evans spoke at the Capitol Press Corps Forum hosted by the Mississippi State University Stennis Institute of Government on Monday, October 7, 2024. After discussing our state’s progress in education. Dr. Evans took questions from reporters. In response to a question regarding vouchers and school choice, Dr. Evans said he would be charged with implementing any such measure passed by the legislature and upheld by the courts, but “I do believe if one single dollar of public money goes into a private school, then every single child in that school has to be subjected to the same assessment of every single student in public school.” He went on to say that any such private school should also be required to accept all students. Dr. Evans stated multiple times during the forum that it is his goal to make sure public education is the best option for students.
