Legislative Bill Tracking (3/8/18)

Wednesday was the deadline for each chamber to pass general bills which originated in the other chamber. The Senate passed the Mississippi School Safety Act late Wednesday afternoon. The act gives local districts and higher education institutions the discretion to adopt policy allowing teachers and professors who receive enhanced law-enforcement training and who have enhanced concealed carry training and permits to carry concealed weapons in schools and colleges. Since the Senate amended HB 1083, the bill now heads back to the House for members of that chamber to either agree with the Senate’s amendments or to invite conference to negotiate a compromise.
