The 2019 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature convened at noon on Tuesday. Legislators have until January 16 to request general bills to be drafted. Committees must then report (i.e., pass) general bills originating in their own chamber (i.e., Senate or House) by February 5.
A teacher pay raise, the teacher shortage, and state testing are expected to be among the educational issues considered during this session. It is critical that educators contact their local legislators to share your thoughts on these and other issues. You may find legislative contact information in the “Quick Links” menu on our homepage.
As we did last year, MPE is encouraging everyone to wear blue each Friday during the legislative session to show your support for Mississippi teachers. Share your photos on social media using the hashtag #BlueforMSTeachers and be sure to tag MPE so that we may share your posts on our Facebook and Twitter. Encourage your legislators and local leaders to participate in Blue Fridays to show their support for our state’s public school teachers.
