Committees must consider and pass general bills originating in their own chamber (i.e., House or Senate) by Tuesday, February 4. Any general bill not passed out of committee by February 4 will die on the legislative calendar. As of February 21, the only legislation related to National Board Certification is HB 1137 introduced by Rep. Kent McCarty which deletes the additional $4,000 annual supplement for NBCTs in designated districts and provides an additional $4,000 annual supplement to NBCTs who teach in any geographically critical teacher shortage district. HB 1137 has been double referred to both the House Education and House Appropriations committees.
The 2025 Session could significantly impact the future of public education in our state, especially as it relates to school choice, vouchers, and adequate resources for our public schools. It is essential that educators and other citizens have conversations with their local senator and representative on legislation that will impact classrooms throughout our state.
