The school choice battle is heating up and threatens to fundamentally change our state’s approach to public education by creating two educational systems with unlevel playing fields. MPE is joining other public school advocates to demonstrate our support for our state’s public schools via #5for5PublicEd. MPE is encouraging educators, parents, and private citizens to share their thoughts on school choice with five people each week for the next five weeks and encourage those individuals to also talk to five people each week. Sharing the graphic below on your social media is another way to show your support.
The school choice debate centers around two different visions for education. School choice advocates view education as a consumer good and something you shop for while school choice opponents view education as a public good, an institution we all invest in for the good of the public community. The House Education Freedom Committee will hold its second meeting this Thursday, September 25, at 10:00 a.m. at the state capitol. Click here for contact information for members of the committee. MPE will share a summary of the committee’s discussions in our Friday morning, September 26, email.
