Local Boards Pass Resolutions Opposing School Choice

Several additional local governing bodies have passed resolutions opposing school choice and urging their respective legislative delegations, the Mississippi State Legislature, and Governor Reeves to oppose school choice and invest in strengthening public education. The following have passed resolutions in recent weeks:

• The Mayor and Board of Alderman of the City of Florence unanimously passed a resolution on September 16.
• The Jackson City Council passed a resolution on September 23.
• The Oxford School District Board of Trustees unanimously passed a resolution on September 22.

The resolutions cite that vouchers direct public funds to private schools which lack the same academic standards and accountability as public schools.
