The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has awarded $2.9 million in grants to nine universities’ educator prep programs to cover tuition and expenses for up to 236 individuals seeking licensure in elementary or special education via MDE’s Mississippi Teacher Residency Program (MTR). Individuals accepted into the MTR Program receive financial support with tuition, testing fees, books, mentor stipends, and other programmatic services in exchange for a commitment to teach in a geographical critical shortage area.
