Special thanks to our 747 members who participated in our recent member survey. Results included the following:
Members identified our education updates, opportunities for professional growth via our regional trainings and symposium, and professional liability protection as MPE’s most beneficial services.
42% cited compensation as the greatest factor contributing to the state’s teacher shortage and 25% cited the lack of support/respect for public education and educators.
83% do not feel valued as an educator by our legislature.
61% would not support open enrollment legislation that would allow public school students to transfer from one public school district to another public district of their choosing regardless of their residency, while 29% would only support this if receiving districts retain the right to deny a transfer based on capacity.
74% would not support school choice legislation that used public tax dollars to fund school vouchers or educational savings accounts (ESAs), while 14% would only support this for students in “D” or “F” districts.
If public funds go to private schools or homeschools via vouchers or ESAs, 83% believe these schools should be held accountable for the use of the public funds and students’ academic outcomes.
We always appreciate hearing from our members! Our MPE Board of Directors will use these results to evaluate benefits and services. We will share these results with the legislative leadership for their reference in the upcoming legislative session.
Congratulations to Tietti Chandler-Wise of Partnership Middle School in the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District for winning a free year’s membership via our drawing of survey participants.
