MDE Seeking Exemplar Math Manipulatives

Thursday, April 26, 2018

The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is continuing its efforts to offer high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) and resources developed by and for Mississippi educators. MDE would like to showcase the exemplar instructional practices of PreK-12 educators and the activities they use to foster conceptual understanding through the use of manipulatives in the mathematics classroom. Approximately forty (40) PreK-12 educators (10 per grade band) with math content expertise are being sought to submit three (3) activities to be featured in one of four grade-band manuals. Submitted activities will serve as short, hands-on procedures that teachers may implement before, during, or after a lesson to support the teaching and learning process of the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics, PreK-12. The attached application includes key information and submission guidelines for this unique opportunity. Please note that special education teachers, curriculum coordinators, literacy coach support staff, and interventionists with math content expertise are encouraged to apply. Selected educators will have a professional photograph of them and their activities featured in the appropriate grade band manual. All applications and supporting material are due May 16, 2018, by 6:00 p.m. You may contact Dr. Marla Davis in the MDE Office of Secondary Education at mdavis@mdek12.org for additional information.
