State Board of Education Holds February Meeting

The Mississippi State Board of Education held its monthly meeting yesterday, February 20. Among its agenda items, the Board:

 

  • Recognized MPE member Michelle Rafach of Pearl River Central High School in the Pearl River County School District as the 2024 Mississippi History Teacher of the Year
  • Approved an amendment to Mississippi’s ESSA Consolidated State Plan which includes elimination of the U.S. History test and adding those 50 points to the readiness component. Click here for a red line version of the proposed amendment. This proposed amendment has to go to USDE for approval before MDE can put it out for public comment via the APA process.
  • Reviewed 2025 graduation rates.  The 2025 Graduation Rate of 89.2% was down slightly from 2024’s rate of 89.4%. Our dropout rate remained constant at 8.5%. Click here to access the 2024 Graduation Rate Report.
