The Mississippi State Board of Education held its monthly meeting Thursday, May 15. Among its agenda items, the Board:

  • Released the Spring 2025 3rd Grade Initial Reading Summative Assessment results which reflect 77.3% - the highest percentage ever - of third graders passed the initial assessment. Students who did not pass have two retest opportunities. Click here to review initial district- and school-level results. Congratulations to our third-grade educators, students and parents on these initial results!
  • Approved beginning the Administrative Procedures Act (APA) process to establish the new State Board Policy  "Compliance with State Law Regarding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Prohibitions, Complaint Process, and Investigations" as required by HB 1193 of the 2025 Legislative Session. Governor Reeves signed HB 1193 into law on April 17. Once the State Board gives final approval to the model policy – which is expected to be at its June meeting - local school districts will then have 90 days to adopt their own policies and procedures. Two separate uncured violations of the policy in a local school district will result in the withholding of state student funding to the district.
  • Awarded $24 million in funding to support pre-K programs for four-year-old children in districts that are not part of an Early Learning Collaborative. This funding will support 109 pre-K classrooms in 20 districts over the course of three years.
