During its meeting Tuesday night, November 4, the Kosciusko Board of Aldermen adopted a resolution opposing school choice. Aldermen in Clinton, Florence, Jackson, Pearl and Wiggins have also adopted resolutions in opposition to school choice, as have school boards in Lamar County, Oxford, Pearl and Rankin County. The Kosciusko resolution is of particular interest as it is in Speaker of the House Jason White’s legislative district. As shared in previous legislative updates, Speaker White created the Education Freedom Committee to study the House’s commitment to “transforming the educational landscape” in our state via school choice, and he has identified school choice as his top priority for the upcoming legislative session.
