The House Education Committee passed HB 2, that chamber’s school choice bill, by a vote of 13-11 this morning, with two members absent and the chairman not voting as there was not a tie. Mississippi Student Funding Formula (MSFF) provisions related to Pre-K funding were also deleted from the bill as that issue is going to be addressed in a separate bill.

HB 2 now heads to the full House where it is expected to be considered and debated tomorrow, Thursday, January 15. It is critical that concerned educators and Mississippians contact their House member before tomorrow’s debate to share their thoughts on HB 2. You may call the capitol switchboard at 601-359-3770 and leave a message for any representative.
