State Board of Education Holds March Monthly Meeting

The State Board of Education held its monthly meeting Thursday, March 19, 2026. Among other agenda items, the Board:

 

  • Approved the updated Mississippi Strategic Plan for Pre-K through Grade 12 Education. The plan describes the goals, strategies, and measures MDE will utilize to help local districts achieve the state’s objectives for public education.
  • Approved the following districts as Districts of Innovation beginning in the 2026-27 school year: Newton School District, Union School District, and Western Line School District. The Board also renewed Corinth School District and Gulfport School District as Districts of Innovation and Jackson Public School District Early College High School as a School of Innovation.
  • Awarded Educator-in-Residence grants totaling $16.9 million to 21 school districts. These five-year grants will support 35 math coaches who will provide technical assistance and build teacher capacity in mathematics.
